Rebate programs for community buildings

Rebate programs1 and support are available for Indigenous communities to improve the energy efficiency of buildings such as administration offices, health and recreation centres, friendship centres, schools, daycares and multi-unit residential buildings that provide housing for community members. Rebates are available for upgrading existing buildings as well as new construction projects.

Please note there are final deadlines to apply for certain rebates below:

  • Eligible equipment must be installed and all invoices must be dated on or before December 31, 2023.
  • You have up to 12 months from the installation invoice date to submit your rebate application.
    • Example: if the invoice date is October 15, 2023, your rebate application must be submitted by October 15, 2024.
    • Exception: Homes in climate zone 6 and higher will be eligible for a furnace or boiler rebate after December 31, 2023.

Access funding for energy studies to identify upgrades in existing multi-unit residential buildings that provide housing for income-qualified residents, rebates for energy conservation measures, and  implementation support funding to help ensure upgrades meet quality standards.

Electric heat pump water heaters $1,000 per unit For ENERGY STAR® certified heat pump water heaters.
Electric air source heat pumps up to $600 per ton For cold climate, variable terminal and packaged terminal heat pumps.
Foodservice and laundry equipment up to $6,600 per unit For eligible ENERGY STAR commercial cooking equipment, dishwashers, clothes washers and ventilation systems installed in a community kitchen and/or laundry facility.
Refrigeration equipment up to $1,450 per unit For eligible ENERGY STAR commercial refrigerators, freezers, display cases, motor systems, controls and ice machines.
