Connect to gas and get up to $2,700 in rebates
If you have a propane or oil home heating system and want to reduce your heating bills and your carbon footprint, natural gas is a cost-effective, lower-carbon energy option—and natural gas customers can also sign up for carbon-neutral Renewable Natural Gas (RNG).1
Right now we’ve got some great rebates to make it even more affordable to make the switch from propane or oil heating to natural gas.
Up to $2,700 in rebates available
Boiler/furnace and water heater rebates: When you install an eligible high-efficiency natural gas boiler or furnace, you can get a $1,300 rebate. If you install a natural gas water heater at the same time, or if you install a combination heating and hot water system, you can get a $1,700 rebate.
Wall furnace and water heater rebates: If you’ve got a small space to heat, direct vent natural gas wall furnaces are a great option. Install one now, and you could be eligible for a $700 rebate. If you install a natural gas water heater at the same time, you can get a $1,100 rebate.
PLUS: up to $1,000 extra with an additional rebate through our separate Home Renovation Rebate Program when you install when you install an eligible high-efficiency natural gas water heater.
Why choose gas
Natural gas is an abundant, local energy that's currently helping more than a million British Columbians heat their homes and businesses cost effectively. However, the existing natural gas infrastructure also delivers RNG, providing customers with a carbon-neutral energy option instead but still able to use natural gas appliances and equipment.
In fact, natural gas and RNG are two of the most affordable energy options for home heating, as you can see from the cost comparison2 below:
Natural gas customers have the option to sign up for carbon-neutral RNG,1 further reducing their emissions. It’s one of the ways we’re working with our customers to achieve our target to reduce our customers’ emissions by 30 per cent by 2030.
Getting connected to natural gas is easier than you think

1Renewable Natural Gas is produced in a different manner than conventional natural gas. It is derived from biogas, which is produced from decomposing organic waste from landfills, agricultural waste and wastewater from treatment facilities. The biogas is captured and cleaned to create carbon-neutral Renewable Natural Gas (also called biomethane).
2These are approximate annual costs for space heating of a typical household in specific FortisBC and BC Hydro service areas as identified. A typical household is defined as a single family house approx. 2,300 square feet with average insulation. Anticipated savings will be the difference between annual Renewable Natural Gas (RNG), natural gas, electricity, heating oil or propane costs for various heating equipment.
Calculations compare the most energy-efficient heating equipment currently available for natural gas furnace heating, electric resistance heating, oil furnace heating and propane furnace heating, and an air source heat pump with Heating Seasonal Performance Factor of 9.3. Calculations are based on current rates as of January 2022 for FortisBC natural gas rates, January 2022 for FortisBC electricity rates for the Southern Interior, April 2022 for BC Hydro electricity rates for the Lower Mainland, Vancouver Island, Whistler and Northern Interior and heating oil and propane rates from the Home Heating Oil & Propane Study, Sentis Market Research, October 2021. Calculations include applicable carbon tax as of April 2022. FortisBC biomethane (or RNG) rate is as of January 2022. You can designate 5, 10, 25, 50 or 100 per cent of the natural gas you use as RNG. You'll also receive a credit on the BC carbon tax on your bill, depending on the blend you choose.
Savings may vary by household and do not include potential rebates and/or incentives.
