Fort Nelson gas rates
On October 6, 2022, FortisBC received approval from the British Columbia Utilities Commission (BCUC) to merge the natural gas rates for its Fort Nelson customers into that of its remaining natural gas customer base. As of January 1, 2023, all FortisBC customers will pay the same cost of gas rate. Common rates will improve regulatory efficiency, rate stability, and promote fairness.
Fort Nelson customers share the same common rates for cost of gas and delivery. Their storage and transport rate will be set at five per cent of the rest of the province. All of these changes take effect January 1, 2023.
Why does Fort Nelson need common rates?
FortisBC is upgrading its natural gas infrastructure in Fort Nelson in order to continue to deliver safe and reliable energy to its customers. Delivery rates for Fort Nelson customers have been increasing to cover the cost of these upgrades. As these upgrades continue, the rate impact on Fort Nelson customers would become greater. By bringing Fort Nelson customers into the larger rate base, any costs will be spread across over a million FortisBC natural gas customers.
Fort Nelson customers will see the new rate changes on their bills beginning on January 1, 2023. For current rates, visit fortisbc.com/rates.
