Residential electricity rates

Your electricity rate has both a fixed and variable charge. The variable charge is tied to your electricity usage. Fixed charges pay for the costs of meters and infrastructure maintenance, which are necessary for providing electricity service. It’s the same on every bill and not based on how much electricity you use. All rate changes are approved by the British Columbia Utilities Commission (BCUC).

July 2019

On April 2, 2019, the BC Utilities Commission (BCUC) approved FortisBC's request to keep the 2018 rates in effect for 2019. The last FortisBC rate change took place in 2017.

While this keeps rates the same for many customers, some customers may experience rate changes beginning July 1, 2019 as we begin to return to a single flat rate and make other changes recently approved in our rate design application
