Stay alert and be suspicious of door-to-door sales activity

Oct 27, 2017

VANCOUVER, BC – In recent weeks, FortisBC customers have alerted us to salespeople visiting their homes asking to see their furnace. Earlier this year, this same type of sales activity was present and now with winter heating season underway, the door knockers have returned.

FortisBC reminds all customers that we do not solicit door-to-door. So, if you receive a visit from someone claiming to be from FortisBC ask for their information and contact us to verify.

  • Be cautious of anyone who shows up unannounced claiming to be offering appliance inspections.
  • Always ask for photo identification and get the name of the person and the business.
  • If you ask the salesperson to leave, they must leave right away. If you feel unsafe, call the police.
  • In the event that you are asked to sign an agreement or any paperwork, ensure you read the fine print and understand what you are signing. For information about maintaining your furnace and tips on choosing a licensed contractor, visit
