Cost of propane changing for FortisBC customers in Revelstoke

Mar 10, 2017

SURREY, BC – FortisBC customers in Revelstoke will see a change to the cost of propane rate on April 1, 2017. Revelstoke residential customers receiving piped propane will see an increase to the cost of propane rate from $7.878 per gigajoule (GJ) to $11.088 per GJ. Based on an annual average consumption of 50 GJ, this works out to an overall increase of approximately $161 for a full year or 21 per cent.

The British Columbia Utilities Commission reviews commodity rates every three months to ensure the rates we charge appropriately cover the cost of propane, which is purchased on behalf of customers and passed on without mark-up. Customers pay what we pay. The delivery rate, which is not changing, reflects the cost to deliver propane to your home and includes our regulated rate of return.

Propane prices are influenced by global oil markets. Other factors affecting the market price of propane include weather, supply and demand and economic conditions.

FortisBC is committed to helping customers conserve energy and get the most out of their energy dollar by providing both financial incentives and advice on energy efficient technologies and practices.
