FortisBC awarded for social media campaign promoting energy conservation

FortisBC was one of 16 utilities to be recognized with a 2016 E Source Utility Ad Award, the utility industry’s largest and most comprehensive advertising competition, presented in Denver, Colorado this September.

FortisBC placed second in the Best Social Media Ad category for its 2015 social media contest, "What keeps you warm?" where customers were encouraged to use a variety of social media channels to share ways to keep warm without turning up the thermostat.

The contest was successful in engaging with customers about the importance and value of managing winter energy use. The entries were creative and inspiring, varying from dog cuddles to ugly sweaters. The overall campaign also helped establish FortisBC's new Instagram account as an additional way for customers to connect with FortisBC about energy use in their home or business.

The annual E Source Utility Ad Awards Contest attracts an average of 500 submissions each year and is open to any electric or gas utility located in the US or Canada. An independent group of judges from industry and academia select the winners based on message, creativity, results and overall impression. E Source provides research, consulting and market research to more than 300 utilities across North America.
