Connect your project to electricity

FortisBC provides electricity service in the Southern Interior of BC. If you’re building or renovating in Kelowna, the South Okanagan, Boundary or Kootenays, you can request construction services online.

What you need to know

You can request new electricity service by using our online request form.

New electrical installations must meet all safety requirements of the Canadian Electrical Code, Technical Safety BC and FortisBC. For details about how to meet our requirements, builders and contractors should reference the Service and metering guide (Document 801-06) .

If you will be excavating or trenching or installing electrical conduits, also see the Specification for installation of underground conduit systems (Document 801-07).

Permit needed for electricity service installation

We can’t complete your service and energize without a permit (electrical affidavit) on site. Your electrician usually gets the necessary permit and leave it on site. If there’s no permit on site when FortisBC employees arrive to install the electricity service, we have to charge a site visit fee of $182 to the person financially responsible for the project.

Making changes to existing electricity service

If you need relocate your existing service or need to upgrade your main panel amperage, you can make some service requests online or call us. Find out more about changing your existing electricity service.

Total connected load

Commercial or unique residential service loads require a calculated connected load in order to provide an accurate design and cost estimate.
