ENERGY STAR® Portfolio Manager

ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager is a free web-based software application for benchmarking your building’s energy performance. Tracking and managing your building’s natural gas use can help you find opportunities to improve energy efficiency and reduce costs. Plus, Portfolio Manager includes aggregated Canadian weather and energy data to allow you to compare your building’s energy performance with its peers.

We make benchmarking easier by helping you upload your natural gas consumption data directly to your Portfolio Manager account.

Eligibility requirements

  1. You must be a FortisBC commercial rate class natural gas customer.
  2. You must register for a free ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager account.1
  3. You must agree to the terms and conditions regarding sharing your natural gas consumption data with Portfolio Manager.2

1FortisBC does not own, license or provide user support for Portfolio Manager software. FortisBC’s role is to help customers access and upload their natural gas consumption data to Portfolio Manager.

Basics of uploading natural gas consumption data to Portfolio Manager

For detailed instructions and tips, see our Quick start guide.

  1. Create an account or log in to ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager.
  2. Follow the prompts to enter information about your property and natural gas meter(s).
  3. Select the properties and meters to upload natural gas consumption data for. You can either enter this data manually from billing information available in Account Online or connect with FortisBC Web Services in Portfolio Manager to have your data automatically uploaded.
  4. For automatic uploading, agree to FortisBC’s terms and conditions for the data transfer and send a connection request in Portfolio Manager. You will be notified when FortisBC accepts the request. This may take up to 24 hours.
  5. After the connection with FortisBC is accepted, select your sharing permissions in Portfolio Manager, and validate each meter to complete the process and authorize the exchange of natural gas consumption data with FortisBC.
  6. Your request will be processed in one to two business days. You will receive up to 36 months of historical consumption data for each meter, and after that you will receive monthly automatic updates in Portfolio Manager.

Portfolio Manager offers several tools to help you review your building’s energy performance and natural gas consumption, including reports and graphs. For software support, please contact Natural Resources Canada.
