Receive a rebate for each vat and oven

Eligible fryers and ovens installed on or after October 1, 2014 (as defined by the Gas Notification of Completion, Installation or Alteration) are eligible for a rebate on each vat and/or oven. For example, a double-stack oven would qualify for two rebates. (Fryers and ovens installed prior to this date will receive one rebate for each unit.)

Combination ovens

Combination ovens combine the function of hot air convection (oven mode) and saturated/superheated steam heating (steam mode), or both (combination), to perform steaming, baking, roasting, re-thermalizing and proofing of various food products. It may also be referred to as a combination oven/steamer, combi or combo.

Minimum Efficiency Requirements - Tested steam mode cooking energy efficiency of ≥ 38% and convection mode cooking energy efficiency of ≥ 44%  and meet the idle energy rate requirements in Table 1

*Combination oven/steamer pan capacity on based on the maximum capacity of standard 2 ½-inch deep hotel pans.
This must be consistent with the number of pans used to meet the energy-efficiency qualifications per ASTM F2861.

Convection ovens

A convection oven is a general purpose oven that cooks food by forcing hot dry air over the surface of the food product. The rapidly moving hot air strips away the layer of cooler air next to the food and enables the food to absorb the heat energy.

A conveyor oven carries food on a moving belt into and through a heated chamber.

Fryers

​Fryers

Commercial Open, Deep-Fat Fryer: An appliance, including a cooking vessel, in which oil is placed to such a depth that the cooking food is essentially supported by displacement of the cooking fluid rather than by the bottom of the vessel. Heat is delivered to the cooking fluid by means of an immersed electric element or band-wrapped vessel (electric fryers), or by heat transfer from gas burners through either the walls of the fryer or through tubes passing through the cooking fluid (gas fryers).

Standard fryer: A fryer with a vat that measures >12 inches and <18 inches wide, and a shortening capacity >25 pounds and <65 pounds.

Fryers - large vat

Fryers - large vat

Used for deep frying foods, natural gas fryers hold a deep vat of cooking oil which is heated by the transfer of heat from a gas burner through tubes passing through the cooking oil. A standard fryer has a vat between 12 and 18 inches wide and can hold 25-65 pounds of shortening. A large fryer’s vat ranges from 18 to 24 inches wide and has a shortening capacity of more than 50 pounds.

Any appliance listed at the time of purchase will be eligible for an incentive. Appliances added to the eligible appliance list after the date of purchase are not eligible for a rebate.

Manufacturer? Apply to have your appliance rebate eligible

If you are an appliance manufacturer you can apply to have your commercial cooking appliance included in the Foodservice Incentive Program.

How to apply

  1. Have your appliance tested in accordance with the appropriate test standard as set forth by the American Society for Testing Materials (ASTM) (refer to the eligible foodservice appliance list application for details) by a laboratory accredited according to the ASTM F2875-10 standard. 
  2. Complete the eligible foodservice appliance list application
  3. Email the completed application form along with documentation detailing the performance test results from the accredited laboratory to commercialrebates@fortisbc.com. (Please allow a minimum of 90 days for processing.)

Note: the initial eligible foodservice appliance list has been developed based on information provided by the Food Service Technology Center. All cooking appliances listed have been tested and their performance certified at laboratories accredited by the ASTM F2875-10 standard in accordance with the applicable test standard. Refer to the appliance eligibility criteria on page two of the eligible appliance list application form for additional information.
