Custom rebates for new multi-unit residential buildings

Your next construction project could be at the forefront of energy efficiency with our program supporting the construction of high-efficiency, multi-unit residential and mixed-use buildings.

Are you eligible?*

  1. You must be a FortisBC or municipal** commercial electricity customer.
  2. You must be building new or extensively renovating a multi-unit residential building, such as an apartment or condominium complex that may include commercial space.
  3. You must receive approval before installing eligible energy-saving measures.

Available rebates

Choose from a variety of incentives, including custom performance and individual energy-saving measures. For example, you could choose a lighting design rebate, plus in-suite appliance rebates.

Central water heating

Storage water heaters and hot water supply boilers (natural gas) $5 per MBH ​Maximum of $15,000 per water heater. 90%+ thermal efficiency for storage type or volume boiler type water heaters used for only domestic hot water purposes. Qualifying list can be found here.
​Storage water heaters and hot water supply boilers (natural gas) ​$3 per MBH ​Maximum of $15,000 per water heater. 84-89.9% thermal efficiency for storage type or volume boiler type water heaters used for only domestic hot water purposes. Qualifying list can be found here.
Tankless domestic hot water (natural gas)​ ​$2.50 per MBH ​Maximum of $15,000 per water heater. 90%+ thermal efficiency for tankless water heaters used for only domestic hot water purposes. Qualifying list can be found here.
Electric space heating and cooling

Cold climate heat pump $500 per ton The heat pump must be listed on the Cold Climate Air Source Heat Pump Specification Listing maintained by the Northeast Energy Efficiency Partnership (NEEP).
​Variable refrigerant flow (VRF) heat pump ​$600 per ton ​The VRF heat pump system must meet or exceed the CEE Tier 1 COP requirement in heating mode.
Packaged terminal heat pump​ ​$80 per PTHP Must replace or be installed instead of a packaged terminal air conditioner. Must be AHRI certified.
​Hotel guest room occupancy sensor $90 per PTHP ​Must be installed to control a PTAC or PTHP with back-up electric resistance heating. Occupancy sensor must have the following capabilities: dual technology: passive infrared and motion sensing; the capability to control the PTAC/PTHP at three different temperature set points: occupied, occupied/sleeping and unsold/unoccupied.

​LED high-bay luminaire (201W to 250W) ​$120 per fixture The fixture must be listed and approved by the DLC, and categorized as indoor - high bay, with high bay luminaires for commercial and industrial buildings as the primary use.​
​LED high-bay luminaire (251W to 300W) $150 per fixture​ ​The fixture must be listed and approved by the DLC, and categorized as indoor - high bay, with high bay luminaires for commercial and industrial buildings as the primary use.
​LED 2 or 4 pin downlights (up to 14W) ​$7 per lamp ​Lamp must be listed and approved by the DLC and categorized as four pin-base replacement lamps for CFLs OR listed on the Lighting Design Lab (LDL) qualified LED lamp & tube list.
​LED 2 or 4 pin downlights (15W to 20W) ​$10 per lamp ​Lamp must be listed and approved by the DLC and categorized as four pin-base replacement lamps for CFLs OR listed on the LDL qualified LED lamp & tube list.
​LED PAR style lamp (up to 12W) $8 per lamp​ Lamp must be approved and listed on the ENERGY STAR certified bulb list.​
​LED PAR style lamp (13W to 24W) ​$10 per lamp ​Lamp must be approved and listed on the ENERGY STAR certified bulb list.

​LED linear ambient luminaire (up to 50W) ​$40 per fixture ​The fixture must be listed and approved by the DLC and categorized as indoor - direct linear ambient luminaires OR linear ambient luminaire with direct linear ambient luminaire as primary use.

​LED flood light up (251W to 350W) ​$150 per fixture ​The fixture must be listed and approved by the DLC and be categorized as outdoor with architectural flood and spot luminaires as the primary use.
​Occupancy sensor (switch-plate or fixture-mounted) ​$25 per control Switches with a manual "ON" switch override are not eligible. Occupancy sensor must be commercial grade. Principle of operation shall be passive infrared, ultra-sonic or a combination only.​
​Photocell sensor ​$10 per control ​The photocell sensor type may be on / off or dimming.

NOT eligible: all omnidirectional, BR40, GU10, MR16, PAR16, PAR20, decorative (G, F, ST), and linear tubes.
LED compatible lighting control products: dimmers, motion sensors and timers $3 per unit ​Primarily Lutron products are the eligible makes and models.

How to apply

  1. Review the terms and conditions.  
  2. Contact a FortisBC electricity technical advisor or natural gas energy solutions manager to get started.
  3. Submit a completed and signed pre-qualification application by December 31, 2018 to businessrebates@fortisbc.com.
  4. You’ll receive written approval of your pre-qualification application within 30 days.

Note: energy-saving measures installed prior to written approval will not be eligible for incentives.
