Natural gas water heater rebates

Whether you're building new or upgrading, installing a high-efficiency natural gas commercial water heater is one way to prevent your profits from running down the drain. Another is to apply for a rebate of up to $15,000.

Are you eligible?*

  1. You must be a FortisBC commercial rate class natural gas customer.
  2. You must be a property owner or long-term leaseholder of an existing commercial building, or a builder/developer or property owner of a new commercial construction project.
  3. Submit an application and supporting documentation no later than 365 days after the purchase date of the product(s) (as shown on the paid invoice) or installation date (as shown on the Gas Inspection Request or Gas Certificate of Inspection), whichever is first.

*You can find a complete list of requirements in the terms and conditions.

Available rebates

Rebates are determined by the size and efficiency of the water heater. Each eligible water heater listed includes the applicable rebate amount.

Eligible water heaters

Water heaters must be included on our list of eligible water heaters at the time of purchase to qualify for a rebate.

How to apply

  1. Review the application form and terms and conditions.
  2. Ensure the water heater you plan to buy is on the eligible water heater list. If you have questions please contact us before you purchase and install the water heater.
  3. Contact a gas or mechanical contractor, licensed with the Technical Safety BC, to install your water heater(s). You can find a gas contractor through our directory.
  4. Email your completed application form to within 365 days of the purchase date (as shown on the paid invoice) or installation date (as shown on the Gas Inspection Request or Gas Certificate of Inspection), whichever is first. Be sure to provide copies of:
    • the Gas Inspection Request or Gas Certificate of Inspection from your municipality or the Technical Safety BC
    • the fully paid invoice including make, model number and serial number of the eligible water heater(s) purchased and installed. New construction projects may alternatively provide proof of payment in the form of a final progress draw invoice for the new building AND engineer-approved shop drawings that indicate the job name and site address as proof of make, model and serial number(s) of the eligible water heater(s).

We recommended submitting your application and supporting documents together to reduce processing time. If you can’t submit your application via email, please contact us to arrange an alternate method of delivery.

Thermal Energy Service Providers (TESP) administration process and fee*

Participants who are customers of a TESP are subject to an $825 administration fee for evaluation of the program application. The applicable administration fees are to be deducted directly from any rebate to which the participant is otherwise entitled. If the rebate is less than or equal to the applicable administration fee, the net rebate provided to the participant will be $0.

*A TESP is defined as an individual or organization other than the participant, who will/does own thermal energy generating assets such as the eligible water heaters, for the purpose of selling the thermal energy generated therefrom, to the participant.
