Working in your neighbourhood

We regularly maintain our infrastructure to ensure the safe and reliable delivery of energy to our customers. This includes upgrading electricity and natural gas lines – which may require crews to work along roads – as well as managing vegetation near our facilities and rights of way.

We appreciate your patience and co-operation as we try to minimize disruptions and complete the work in your neighbourhood as quickly and safely as possible.

Note: project details and dates are subject to change. Check your local traffic report for updates on roadwork in your area.

New power line in Crawford Estates

Updated on: August 29, 2022

Project details: To improve reliability and meet the growing needs of our electricity customers in Kelowna, we will be adding a new power line from our DG Bell substation. The new line will serve Kelowna’s Crawford Estates and Upper Mission communities.

This project is an estimated $1.8 million investment in the electric system in this area.

Although public impacts are expected to be minimal, access to a nearby trail network along Stewart Road West and Westridge Drive will be detoured. Access will still be available along the adjacent sidewalk. Once the project is complete, FortisBC plans to restore the area with a linear trail and benches to enhance the area and improve access to the trail network.

We appreciate the public’s patience as our crews work to complete this work as quickly and safely as possible.

Anticipated dates: Mid-September to mid-December

Delta gas line upgrade

Updated on: December 12, 2022

Project details: To support on-going water main upgrades by Metro Vancouver, we will be upgrading a gas line in the Delta area.

Metro Vancouver has requested we alter an existing gas line along 120th St. between 88th Ave. and 86th Ave. A new gas line will be installed in the road, with crews and construction equipment working within the existing right of way. The work will include installing approximately 500 metres of new gas line.

Working hours will be 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Saturday. To help minimize disruption at major intersections, some evening work will be required and will be completed between 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. There will be lane closures during construction to give our crews the space they need to work as safely and quickly as possible. Access for motorists will be maintained throughout construction and traffic control personnel will be on site to assist.

To complete the work, there will be a temporary interruption of gas service to the properties along 120th St. between 88th Ave. and 86th Ave. Once work is complete, we will turn the gas on at the meter and relight any appliances that may be affected.

Start and end dates: December 12, 2022 – February 6, 2023

Pattullo Gas Line Replacement construction in Burnaby

Updated on: October 29, 2021

Project details: We’re building six kilometres of new gas line in Burnaby to replace a gas line we have attached to the Pattullo Bridge before the bridge is decommissioned by the British Columbia Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure. The Ministry’s design standards do not permit a gas line on the new bridge.

The new gas line will run between Lougheed Highway and 16th Avenue, with construction mainly along Sperling Avenue, Glencarin Drive, Lakefield Drive and 4th Street.

This gas line is a vital part of our system, ensuring more than 35,000 customers in Burnaby, Coquitlam and New Westminster receive the natural gas they count on every day. This includes 18,000 customers in Burnaby.

Start and end dates: November 2021 to the end of 2022
