About us

About FortisBC Alternative Energy Services

We acquire, own, operate and maintain in-building thermal energy systems, including renewable and recoverable technologies such as geoexchange, waste heat recovery and variable refrigerant flow systems, as well as conventional technologies including heat pumps and hydronic systems.

FAES is open to the use of a variety of technologies: we work with developers and mechanical consultants to determine the system technologies that provide the optimal solution for each project.

We own 27 operating projects across 45 sites in BC, providing service to nearly seven million square feet, which constitutes approximately 60,000 MWh of thermal energy per year. We offer 24/7 emergency service to our customers.

Our relationship with FortisBC

FortisBC Alternative Energy Services Inc., an affiliate of FortisBC Energy Inc., is a wholly owned subsidiary of Fortis Inc., the largest investor-owned energy delivery utility in Canada, with assets exceeding $45 billion. This successful Canadian-owned and operated parent company provides the strong foundation upon which our commitment to customers, both large and small, is built. We started in 2007 as part of Terasen Gas to invest in alternative energy infrastructure. In 2011, under FortisBC Energy Inc., we received the British Columbia Utility Commission (BCUC)’s support to begin developing thermal energy services across the province. In 2014, the business was separated from FortisBC Energy Inc., and is regulated under the BCUC’s Thermal Energy Systems Regulatory Framework Guidelines. Today we are a leader in this new thermal energy industry in BC.
