The New Home Program for Developers & Builders (NHP – DB) is designed to help developers and builders get the most out of their energy dollar, and their investment.
Requirements
- The NHP is for residential builders and developers of single-family and spec homes, apartments, condominiums and townhouses.
- Construction must be within the FortisBC service area, which includes the areas served by the utilities of: Grand Forks, Kelowna, Penticton, Summerland or Nelson Hydro.
How It Works
- Contact FortisBC PowerSense during the design stage. We can provide you with valuable advice and tips on how to get the most out of your project.
- Complete upgrades.
- Download and submit an application form. Once your project is complete, fill out the form and attach all receipts. You can expect your rebate in the mail approximately 1-2 weeks once it’s been received.
- Choose to participate in our recognition program. Receive promotional materials including signage and certificates to certify your project was built with energy efficiency in mind.
Incentives Overview
For more information on how FortisBC PowerSense can help you with your next project, contact your local FortisBC PowerSense Technical Advisor.
Lighting
“Screw-in” compact fluorescent lights (CFL) can be purchased at no charge. The quantity eligible for this offer will be dependent upon the application. Typically, up to 10 CFL’s are available for each residential home at no charge. I will assist you in obtaining the rebate or ordering the CFL’s.
Energy Rated Windows
If the home uses electric heat, you will be eligible for a rebate of $2.50 per square foot of window area if you install energy rated ENERGY STAR®. Also, if your project utilizes a Heat Pump (see below) then you still qualify for this windows rebate, even if your back-up heat is not electric.
The term of this program and the rebate amount may be modified, at any time, by FortisBC Inc., without prior notice

High Efficiency Heating and Cooling Systems
We also encourage you to consider Heat Pump options for space heating and cooling. Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP) are very efficient and affordable.
However, if you want to upgrade your project to the most efficient technology available today, then a Ground Source Heat Pump should be your choice. Both types of Heat Pump installations are eligible for a rebate.
Advertising Recognition
Recognition including a PowerSense certificate, site signs, and advertising are available.
