Start, stop or move your service

Are you moving?

Log into Account Online, or call us, at least two working days in advance, and let us know that you want to start, stop or move your service.

Moving out

Contact us to let us know you’re moving while you’re still at the address on your account.

Your meter is unique to the property and your consumption does not follow you to the new address, meaning your old meter reading and your new meter reading will not match.

For commercial customers, FortisBC will read your meter monthly.

Once service has ended, we’ll send you a bill for the previous location.

Moving in

If you are currently a FortisBC natural gas customer and you’re moving into another business serviced with natural gas, you will keep the same account number. We’ll simply transfer your account to your new address.

To start new service, there is a $25 application fee when transferring or opening a new account. New commercial customers are also required to pay a security deposit.  Only existing commercial customers that open up a second location and already have a security deposit on file for three years will not have to pay a security deposit.

Gas services for new construction and renovation projects
Installation

To arrange gas services for new construction or renovation projects:

Include the following when you submit your application:

  • the quantity and type of gas appliances to be connected,
  • your delivery pressure, and
  • the name and phone number of your heating contractor.

To meet your request, we require a minimum lead time of 3 weeks for the Lower Mainland (Metro Vancouver), 4 weeks for the Interior, 5 weeks for Squamish, and 5 weeks for Vancouver Island and Whistler.

*Please note some installations may require intensive planning and will not fall within these time frames. In those instances we will have a planner contact you regarding your project.

Removal

To have gas service removed, for example for a building demolition, submit the gas abandonment application form using the online gas application form, or download it in Word (266 KB) or PDF (53 KB) and submit it by phone, fax , mail, or email. Or call us toll free at 1-888-224-2710

Submit your removal request form ahead of time. Allow a minimum of 4 weeks for the Lower Mainland (Metro Vancouver), 4 weeks for the Interior, 5 weeks for Squamish, and 5 weeks for Vancouver Island and Whistler.

Starting a new account with FortisBC

Please note that there is a $25 application fee to cover administrative costs when opening a new account.  Also, some new customers may be required to provide a security deposit.
