Every year, FortisBC processes over 100,000 requests to locate our underground infrastructure. As safety is our top priority, we wanted to recognize companies who share that value and consistently work safely around our underground infrastructure, by practicing safe digging and excavating.

In 2016 we introduced the FortisBC Call Before You Dig Award of Excellence. Our intention with this award is to recognize both a larger company and a small/medium sized company for their exceptional safety record when working around underground infrastructure.

To qualify, the winners have to request a significant amount of BC One Call tickets and have no record of damaging FortisBC underground infrastructure in the last 3 years.

On May 31, we presented the 2016 winners:

Rokstad Power placed first in the larger company category.
In 2016, they requested 2435 tickets when excavating around FortisBC infrastructure with no damages to our system over the past 3 years. Rokstad provides a full suite of power line construction and maintenance services. Based in Western Canada, Rokstad Power has operations across Canada and the United States and has over 600 employees.

RS Line placed first in the small to medium-size category.
RS Line is located in Langley and is involved in distribution and transmission electrical work and underground cable work. In 2016, they requested 1675 tickets when excavating around FortisBC infrastructure with no damages to our system over the past 3 years.

We would like to thank the BC Safety Authority for allowing us to present this award during their Annual Public Meeting. Safety is a joint responsibility and we are very pleased to work closely with the BC Safety Authority to raise awareness of safe excavating and acknowledge these exemplary contractors and companies in the communities we serve.
