FortisBC to maintain cost of gas rates until August 1
Jun 26, 2020
SURREY, BC ̶ June 26, 2020: As British Columbia enters Phase 3 of its Restart Plan, FortisBC has received approval from its regulator, the British Columbia Utilities Commission (BCUC), to maintain the cost of natural gas and propane rates until August 1.
The BCUC approved FortisBC’s request to hold existing cost of gas rates for one more month to give customers more time to recover from any COVID-19 related hardships during the phased re-opening of the provincial economy. With the rates being held, our customers will not have to worry about a change to their natural gas or propane bills at this time.
FortisBC reviews the costs of natural gas and propane rates with the BCUC every three months to ensure the rates passed on to customers are fair and reflect actual costs. FortisBC acquires natural gas and propane at market-based prices and passes those costs on to its customers, without any mark up. The BCUC will next review the costs of gas and propane for changes effective August 1. The regular quarterly review will resume for October 1.
