Lighting of the 2010 Olympic Cauldron to honour Team Canada competing in Pyeongchang

VANCOUVER, BC – To honour both the athletes representing Canada on the world’s biggest sports stage and the 2018 host city PyeongChang, South Korea, the Vancouver Convention Centre will light the iconic Vancouver 2010 Cauldron on Thursday, February 8 prior to the Opening Ceremony for the Olympic Games and Saturday, March 17 prior to the Closing Ceremony for the Paralympic Games.
The public is invited to Jack Poole Plaza to see the lightings of the Cauldron and to wear red and white to show support for Canada’s athletes competing in the 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
"FortisBC is proud to light the Olympic Cauldron today with Renewable Natural Gas," said Jason Wolfe, director of Energy Solutions at FortisBC. "RNG is carbon neutral and is available for use in homes and businesses. Our RNG program currently has over 9,000 voluntary customers and has reduced greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to taking 7,600 cars off the road."
The Cauldron lightings are sponsored by FortisBC. The natural gas being used by FortisBC for these lightings is 100 percent Renewable Natural Gas. This carbon neutral energy source, also known as biogas, is made in BC from organic farm and landfill waste.
