Highrises go high efficiency

Hollyburn Properties has a long history of energy efficiency with FortisBC. The Canadian business offers rental units across the country and throughout Vancouver. Since 2005, the company has replaced 14 boilers in its buildings through our Efficient Boiler Program — and received nearly $206,000 in rebates — rebates that were reinvested back into further improvements.

For Hollyburn Properties, retrofitting heating systems to high efficiency (and thereby extending the life of 40 to 50 year old buildings), fits in with their commitment to environmental conservation.

“Our energy reduction when we do these retrofits to apartment buildings ranges from 25 to 35 per cent* in natural gas consumption depending on design of building,” states Paul Sander, chief executive officer, Hollyburn Properties. “And many of our residents are environmentally conscious as well. They buy their coffee from ethical growers, they recycle and take transit — and we support their efforts by doing what we can to help lower energy use and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.”

Sander encourages others to take advantage of the rebates. “Working with FortisBC is worthwhile,” he says. “We have a good relationship with our account manager and I’d recommend the FortisBC rebates to other building owners and landlords.”
