Building recommissioning

*NOTE: the program was fully subscribed as of September 13, 2013. Program support is available for existing participants.

Hidden building operational problems can result in inefficiencies and increased natural gas consumption. The Continuous Optimization Program, in partnership with BC Hydro Power Smart, is designed to help commercial building owners identify and correct energy wasting operational faults and continuously monitor building performance to help maintain and improve energy efficiency, resulting in reduced operating costs.

The offer

Eligible customers will receive funding towards the cost of re-commissioning services to study their building and recommend energy efficiency improvements, as well as access to an energy management information system (EMIS) to assist in tracking their building’s performance after the re-commissioning work is complete. In return, participants must agree to implement, at their cost, measures identified by the re-commissioning study that when combined, will have a payback of two years or less.

The benefits

Participating in the program will:

  • help you achieve long term energy and cost savings by taking advantage of low-cost operational measures
  • quantify energy savings associated with your re-commissioning efforts and other energy reduction projects
  • allow you to set and track progress towards performance targets for energy use
  • improve your internal energy reporting systems
  • improve your understanding of how your building uses energy and determine whether that energy use is appropriate for the building

*Customers who purchase energy derived in whole or in major part from some other source (e.g. waste heat recovery, geothermal plant, and electric resistance) are not eligible for FortisBC incentives.
