 Pre-qualification process

Why does FortisBC have a pre-qualification process?

The pre-qualification process will help ensure you understand the program terms and conditions before you purchase your new heating system. Pre-qualification codes are available until December 31, 2018. The pre-qualification code you receive is non-transferable; therefore, you cannot give this to another FortisBC customer.

I lost my pre-qualification code. What do I do?

Please call us at 1-800-663-8400.

I don’t have access to a computer. How do I get a pre-qualification code?

Call us at 1-800-663-8400 and we’ll be happy to assist you.

How do I claim the Connect to Gas program rebate?

First, obtain a pre-qualification code online or by calling 1-800-663-8400.

Once your new heating or heat and hot water system is installed, send us your completed application form (including the pre-qualification code) with the contractor details completed in full, along with a copy of the paid invoice for the qualifying heating or heat and hot water system.

The invoice must include the purchase date, make and model of the heating system or heat and hot water system, details of the work performed, the Technical Safety BC gas contractor licence number and the installation permit number.

Applications—including supporting documents—must be emailed or mailed and postmarked no later than January 31, 2019.

 Eligible models

Where do I find a list of eligible models?

If you’re purchasing a separate water heater to get the additional $400 rebate, all new natural gas water heaters meeting BC code are eligible.

Eligible furnaces and boilers are listed here.

Eligible space and water heating (combined) systems can be found here.

What happens if I purchase a system that is not eligible?

You will not qualify for a rebate.

 Deadlines

What are the deadlines?
You must install your Heating or Heating and Hot Water System by December 31, 2018. Applications and supporting documents must be complete and emailed or postmarked within 30 days of the installation of the Heating System or Heating and Hot Water System, and in any event, no later than January 31, 2019. You must apply for a pre-qualification code by December 31, 2018.
What do you mean by the postmarked date?
If you’re sending your application by mail, its postmarked date must be no later than six months after you were issued a pre-qualification code, and in any event no later than January 31, 2019. A postmark on a letter indicates the date and time the item was delivered into the care of Canada Post. If the letter was dropped into a post box, this is the date the mail was picked up by Canada Post. If you live in a rural area, please ensure the pickup times will be well within program deadlines. We cannot accept applications with a postmarked date after the deadline. To ensure your application is received by the deadline, we recommend you send it by registered mail.
What if I purchase my heat or heat and hot water system before the program start date or after the deadline?

You will not qualify for the rebate if the product is not purchased within the timelines stated.

What if my invoice date is outside the program eligible purchase dates?

The invoice date must be within the eligible purchase date and must clearly show payment in full was made for the equipment.

What if my application goes missing in the mail?

FortisBC is not responsible for lost, damaged, incomplete, illegible or delayed applications.
