Energy assessments

Your business can receive a walkthrough energy assessment conducted by an authorized FortisBC consultant. This assessment, provided for a nominal fee, will identify low- and no-cost energy conservation measures, potential energy-efficiency upgrades and rebates to help offset the cost of upgrading equipment.

Are you eligible?1

  1. You must be a FortisBC natural gas and/or electricity2 commercial customer.
  2. You must be the owner or long-term lease holder of a medium-sized business or small industrial/manufacturing facility.

​A contribution of $200 per building is required for customers with medium-sized businesses, while customers with small industrial/manufacturing facilities must contribute $300 per building.

Additional criteria

Buildings and facilities must meet the following criteria:

Medium business

  • minimum average annual natural gas consumption between 1,500 and 10,000 gigajoules (GJ)3 (excluding process loads4)
  • conditioned floor area no greater than 100,000 square feet.

Small industrial/manufacturing

  • minimum average annual natural gas consumption between 1,500 and 10,000 GJ (can include process loads4)
  • maximum conditioned floor area of 200,000 square feet
  • must produce a good or service of economic value (e.g. food processing)


3FortisBC electricity and municipal customers do not need to meet natural gas consumption requirements to be eligible.
4Process load means the consumption of natural gas for any purpose other than for maintaining human comfort and sanitation via space, domestic hot water or pool heating (e.g. food processing, greenhouse heating, snow melting and car washing).

How to apply

  1. Review the terms and conditions.
  2. Complete and sign the application form.
  3. Email your application to
    Note: if you can’t submit your application via email, please contact us to arrange an alternative method of delivery.
  4. If approved, a FortisBC consultant will contact you to schedule the walkthrough assessment. Please allow at least 30 days to process your application.
  5. On the day of the walkthrough assessment, ensure you're available for the full day to provide access to your building or facility and all relevant equipment.
  6. A report will be forwarded to you within 60 days of the assessment. You’ll also receive an invoice for your portion of the cost of the assessment: $200 per building for medium-sized businesses and $300 per building for small industrial/manufacturing facilities.
  7. Within 30 days of receiving the report, you will be contacted by a FortisBC representative to discuss the findings and next steps.
