Four recipients receive $15,000 FortisBC Community Giving fund

September 25, 2017
Non-profit and charitable organizations nominated by elected officials for the funding

Deserving community organizations throughout the province will soon have an extra $15,000 in funding to help advance the positive work they are doing in their communities, thanks to a unique funding program by FortisBC.

“It’s important to FortisBC to support the communities in which we live and work,” said David Bennett, director, communications and external relations at FortisBC. “All of these organizations are deserving of this recognition and support because of the difference they are making in their communities.”

The 2017 Community Giving recipients were announced at the Union of BC Municipalities (UBCM) Convention in Vancouver this evening. Below are the 2017 recipients:

  • Campbellton Neighbourhood Association, Campbell River. The FortisBC investment will go towards the first phase of the Rescue the River project, which will help create a ‘view corridor’ along the Campbell River from Spruce Street to the Tamarack Bridge.
  • Tri-Cities Friends of Refugees Task Group, Coquitlam. FortisBC’s donation will go towards renovating empty, uninhabitable rental homes.
  • W.E. Graham Community Services, Slocan. FortisBC’s donation will go towards software, hardware, new equipment, and installation costs, to upgrade their Learning Lab operation.

And, in recognition of the contributions communities across the province have made to support those impacted by the wildfires this summer, FortisBC has extended an additional $15,000 Community Giving fund to a local Kamloops organization:

  • The Boys & Girls Club of Kamloops, a business that has shown generosity during the wildfire season. FortisBC’s donation will help fund improvements to the John Tod Centre Playground.
