Community investment, Indigenous relations

Everyday our Aboriginal Relations team looks for ways to support communities and causes and are guided by FortisBCs Aboriginal Statement of Principles. These opportunities come in many forms and most recently in the form of a sponsorship request for the Inspiration Gala of Hope event presented by the Nahanee family.

Also known as the Chinook Songcatchers, the Nahanee family are familiar faces here at FortisBC since leading our National Aboriginal Day celebrations earlier this year.  But beyond the celebrations theirs is a story of hope and inspiration. Several years ago one of their daughters was diagnosed with kidney disease and in order to save her life, her mom donated one of her kidneys in a true act of unconditional love. We constantly strive at FortisBC to support and build safe and healthy communities, so knowing their story we welcomed this opportunity to support and participate in the event. This included Vladimir Kostka a Key Account Manager and keen photographer, who generously donated a beautiful 8ft x 3ft piece of his work to the live auction. The event was full of cultural food and entertainment, a night I will not forget.

Funds raised will support the BC and Yukon Kidney Foundation. Here’s the photo of us at the event, featured in the North Shore News.
