Safety, Electricity

When a storm hits, it is not uncommon to see a downed power line. Remember, electricity is silent and invisible. Treat it with respect, as downed power lines can still be energized and deadly.

Learn how to:

  • Stay safe around downed power lines
  • Prepare your home for a power outage
  • Turn appliances on once power is restored
  • Make an emergency kit for you and your family

During a power outage, we often get asked "What do I do about the food in my fridge or freezer?"

  • Keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed as much as possible to keep food cold. In general, a freezer that’s half full will keep food frozen for up to 24 hours and a full freezer for up to 48 hours.
