How do I apply to participate in the program?

​To apply to the FortisBC Electrical Contractor Program, you must follow these steps:

  1. Review the program terms and conditions and complete an application form
  2. Submit your signed application to electricrebates@fortisbc.com along with copies of the following:
    • Technical Safety BC electrical contractor licence (if applicable)
    • refrigeration mechanic certificate (if applicable)
    • business licence for each community you operate in
    • proof of liability insurance ($2 million minimum)
    • proof of WorkSafeBC or third-party disability coverage
What are the benefits of joining?

By joining the FortisBC Electrical Contractor Program, you’ll have the opportunity to connect with customers through a listing in our online directory. This searchable directory is frequently promoted to customers through FortisBC newsletters, bill inserts, social media and website, giving customers the assurance of hiring professionals who are committed to service, safety and energy efficiency.

Participants in the FortisBC Electrical Contractor Program receive advance notice of new energy efficiency rebate programs. You may also be invited to participate in training seminars for new products and technologies, further enhancing the service you provide to your customers.
How will I find out if I’m accepted into the program?

​Upon receipt of your completed application form and the required documentation, we will advise you of your acceptance to the FortisBC Electrical Contractor Program by mail.

What are the insurance requirements?

​We require contractors to maintain a minimum of $2 million public liability insurance and $1 million liability insurance for each vehicle they operate. Members must also have WorkSafeBC or third-party disability coverage.

Why do you require proof of liability insurance coverage?

​We require proof of your liability insurance coverage ($2 million minimum required) to verify that you carry the type and amount of insurance that meets our minimum requirements. All members must maintain this amount of public liability insurance for as long as they are registered with the FortisBC Electrical Contractor Program.

Do I need a contractor’s licence to apply to the FortisBC Electrical Contractor Program?

​Applicants must have all necessary licences and registrations as required by the BC Safety Standards Act to carry on their businesses. If you are required to have a Technical Safety BC electrical contractor licence, a copy must be submitted with your application to the program.
