What is the FortisBC Electrical Contractor Program?

​The FortisBC Electrical Contractor Program helps customers find knowledgeable local professionals to provide electrical, heating, lighting and other energy-saving products and services. Contractor Program members listed in our directory:

  • possess a minimum of $2 million liability and third-party insurance
  • have a business licence for each community they operate in
  • have been in business for a minimum of one year
  • are informed about energy-efficiency rebates

In addition, electrical contractors must be licensed with Technical Safety BC.

Can I still find a natural gas contractor through this directory?

While some FortisBC Electrical Contractor Program members may offer natural gas-related services, you can find a licensed gas contractor using the FortisBC Trade Ally Network directory.  This searchable directory lists gas contractors that have shown they are licensed with Technical Safety BC to provide natural gas products and services to homes and businesses.

Which communities and regions do members of the FortisBC Electrical Contractor Program operate within?

​Members of this program serve communities in our electricity service area, including Kelowna, South Okanagan and the West Kootenays and municipal utilities in Penticton, Summerland, Grand Forks and Nelson. They must have a business licence for each community they operate in.

Are FortisBC Electrical Contractor Program members employed by FortisBC?

​No. Members of FortisBC Electrical Contractor Program are independent contractors and are not FortisBC employees. However, they must meet our requirements, such as licensing, insurance and length of time in business, as a condition of acceptance into the program.

How do I know if a contractor is part of the FortisBC Electrical Contractor Program?

​Member contractors have a listing in the FortisBC Electrical Contractor Program directory.

Is there a benefit to choosing a contractor that is part of the FortisBC Electrical Contractor Program?

FortisBC provides these contractors with up-to-date information on electricity rebates and offers, as well as training opportunities on the latest energy-saving technologies. This may make it easier to choose high-efficiency systems and equipment for your home or business. These contractors can also help you apply for applicable rebates and offers.

And, by signing up for our program, these contractors have shown a commitment towards helping customers like you save energy.
Will FortisBC recommend a contractor for me?

​No, we cannot recommend a contractor to a customer. We help you find a contractor in your area by providing a searchable FortisBC Electrical Contractor Program directory. Directory listings provide the contractor’s contact information, the regions they operate in and the kinds of services they provide. Results are presented in random order and feature 10 contractors per page.
