Natural gas. Good for future solutions.

We live in an ever-changing world. Customers are looking for new and innovative energy solutions for both today and tomorrow.

From a sustainable energy source and fleet vehicles running on compressed natural gas (CNG), to energy efficiency programs that help create jobs and save money, natural gas continues to be part of the solutions.

Renewable energy: now more affordable than ever

In 2010, we became the first North American utility to offer renewable natural gas to customers. We work with local suppliers to capture biogas and turn it into something good – helping to reduce the emissions that would have escaped into the atmosphere. Since the program began, our subscribers have reduced emissions to the equivalent of 2,800 vehicles removed from our roads, every year.1

As of October 1, 2016, we reduced our renewable natural gas rate so more of our customers can take advantage of this locally-produced, carbon-neutral energy source. Check out our renewable natural gas calculator to find out how much you’ll pay for the blend of renewable natural gas you want, and you’ll see the greenhouse gas emissions reduction benefit for our province.

Natural gas for transportation

As a leader in driving the adoption of natural gas as a transportation fuel in BC, we offer a wide range of financial incentives and services.

We work with a variety of industry fleet operators to put natural gas-fuelled vehicles on BC roads. Saving operators up to 50 per cent in fuel costs2 natural gas also helps to improve air quality. In fact, BC’s transportation industry is responsible for the largest share of provincial greenhouse gas emissions.3  By converting fleets, vehicles and marine vessels to natural gas (LNG or CNG) we’ll help the province meet its future goals of reducing carbon emissions.

Conservation and energy management

Energy efficiency can be a huge economic driver for BC. Our energy efficiency rebates and programs help residential, commercial and industrial customers save energy and money.

In 2015 alone, the programs helped BC customers save an estimated 424,000 gigajoules of natural gas, which is enough to heat about 28,000 Lower Mainland homes for a year.4 In 2015, we launched the Efficiency in Action Awards to celebrate those in the public sector, commercial, industrial, foodservice and new home construction committed to energy efficiency.

1 Since the renewable natural gas offering launched to residential customers in June 2010 and commercial customers in March 2012, our supporters have helped reduce greenhouse gas emissions by an amount equivalent to removing 2,801 cars from the road. Estimated emissions avoided are equal to 0.0498 tonnes CO2e per gigajoule of natural gas. The estimated number of cars off the road is based on the annual emissions from an average car using the calculator at
