Building a New Facility?

Whatever business you're in, energy costs can account for a significant portion of your overhead costs. If you’re planning to build a new facility, FortisBC PowerSense can offer you expert advice as well as valuable rebates on energy efficient technologies and solutions that will help you get the most out of your energy dollar.

Program assistance and financial incentives include:

  • free initial assessment of the building design’s level of energy efficiency
  • where a more detailed assessment is required, 50% of an approved study cost to a maximum of $5000If assistance >$1000, it is netted from the final rebate amount.
  • rebates towards the incremental cost of efficiency measures compared to standard “baseline” construction

Unless otherwise stated, the rebate entitlement is based on 5¢ per estimated annual kW.h savings, with the maximum rebate calculated to achieve a two-year payback on incremental cost.

PowerSense encourages developers to meet or exceed the technical guidelines of the Model National Energy Code for Buildings (MNECB) by at least 25%. NRCan offers a new Building Design Validation service, which provides free energy modeling software, training and/or technical support.  Participants receive a detailed report confirming the energy efficiency features of the design, and which can be used to qualify the ir building for PowerSense incentives, and/or for LEED accreditation.  On average participants have cost-effectively exceeded the MNECB by 35%.
