FortisBC PowerSense is committed to helping customers conserve energy and get the most out of their energy dollar by providing both financial incentives and advice on energy efficient technologies and practices.

FortisBC PowerSense programs are available to FortisBC customers, and also customers of the following municipal utilities:Grand Forks, Kelowna, Penticton, Summerland and Nelson Hydro.

Since its creation in 1989, customer participation in PowerSense programs is impressive:

  • 21,500 residential program participants;
  • 200,000 compact fluorescent light bulbs purchased;
  • 15,000 water-saver kits installed resulting in annual water savings of 16 million liters;
  • 4,700 high efficiency heat pump system installations;
  • 1,900 PowerSense new homes;
  • Over 350 large projects with business, industry and the public sector, each saving at least 100,000 kW.h
  • Cumulative energy savings of over 300,000,000 kW.h.

What does all this mean? Over the past 18 years, we have saved enough energy to meet the annual energy needs of over 24,000 households and save customers $18 million!

It’s accomplishments like these that have helped the FortisBC PowerSense program achieve provincial and national recognition, including a 2000 BC Minister of Environment Award and a 2003 Canadian Energy Efficiency Award from the federal government.
