FortisBC provides reliable electrical energy to all homes and businesses within our service territory. However, from time to time, outages can occur.  Most power outages are unintended, brief and the result of extreme weather. In some cases they are planned in order for FortisBC to perform maintenance and service. To read more about the types of outages, click here.

When the power goes out

When faced with a power interruption, we urge you to call FortisBC as it helps us to determine the extent of the outage, but before you do, check with your neighbours to see if they have power. If they do, the problem may be due to a problem in your panel such as a circuit breaker that has tripped or a fuse that has blown. Replace any blown fuses or reset any tripped breakers by turning them completely off before turning them on again. If you need help, call an electrician or electrical tradesman.

If the outage goes beyond your home or business, please call FortisBC's 24-hour, toll free emergency number at 1-866-4FORTIS (1-866-436-7847). If the outage is extensive, hundreds of customers may be calling at the same time, so you may be placed on hold.
