Local Students Selected for FortisBC Scholarships
KELOWNA, BC, July 2, 2009: Four youth across B.C’s south Okanagan are being
recognized this year for their high academic achievements with a FortisBC scholarship.
Every year, FortisBC works with each high school within the utility’s service territory to
provide one scholarship per school to students who plan to pursue a post-secondary
education related to careers in the electrical industry, and who have demonstrated high
academic achievement. A total of 18 scholarships are being awarded by FortisBC this year.
Each recipient receives a scholarship of $500 to support the costs of their tuition and
student fees. The South Okanagan recipients for 2009 are:
Melvie Tarr — Osoyoos Secondary School
Draydon Power — Summerland Secondary School
Taylor Doll — Southern Okanagan Secondary School, Oliver
Cole Saldat — Penticton Secondary School

pleased to award this year’s scholarships to these students who have demonstrated a
commitment to continuing their education,” said Michael Mulcahy, Vice President Corporate
and Customer Service for FortisBC. “I want to congratulate each of this year’s scholars and
wish them success as they take the next step in their education.
This year, FortisBC contributed more than $25,000 to support enhancing education in B.C.’s
southern interior. The post secondary scholarship program has been offered since 2002 to
high school graduates across our service area to assist them with pursuing and
accomplishing their academic goals.
