FortisBC offers two programs for schools to educate children about natural gas and electrical safety.
Natural Gas
The natural gas presentation is designed to educate school-children, aged 7 to 9 or Grade 2 to 4, about natural gas safety. The presentation and Q&A session includes information about natural gas, where it comes from, how to use it, how to conserve it and how to be safe around it.
The Safety Program is delivered by volunteer employees to schools located within 500 metres of a natural gas right of way. Students will receive colouring books and several other educational materials. As a thank-you, teachers will receive a $25 gift certificate to Scholastic.

Ed Marbach, Safety Coordinator, shows a student the electrical hazard board model that helps students learn about electricity.
Electricity
Electrical awareness presentations are provided on request from schools within FortisBC’s electric service territory. Presentations are tailored to school children, aged 10 to 11 or Grade 6. The material in the electrical awareness presentations will relate to their Science Studies curriculum.
Students and teachers can also explore Electrical Safety World, offering interactive games, science experiments, stories, fantastic facts, and safety information, all wrapped up in a colorful, animated website.
