Save on water heating

Every drop counts. Reduce water heating costs for your home.

Cool laundry

Wash your clothes in cold water, except for your dirtiest whites.

Go low-flow-you'll never know

A five minute shower with a low-flow showerhead uses as little as 45 litres of water. A standard uses as much as 135 litres. That's a difference of 32,850 litres a year. Based upon a five minute shower with a low-flow showerhead, a family of four could save up to $88* a year.

Wrap the pipes Help reduce heat loss and save about two per cent on water heating bills by insulating hot water pipes, especially when they run through unheated areas such as basements and crawl spaces.
Leave the dishes Run your dishwasher only when it's full. If hand-washing, rinse dishes in cold water. Better yet, use a basin of cold water instead of running the tap.
Fix leaky pipes Don't be a drip! A hot water tap, dripping every second, wastes 720 litres of water per month, or about 14 hot baths**. A drip can usually be repaired by replacing the washer.

*Based upon an average lower mainland four person home as of January 1, 2011 with gas heated space and water.
**Based on assumption of 3,600 drips/hour, 4,000 drips=1 litre, and 45L per bath.
