Piped propane system

FortisBC operates a piped propane distribution system that serves residential and commercial customers in the Revelstoke area.

Propane is transported to Revelstoke by railcar and tanker-truck and off-loaded at an above-ground site. The propane is vapourized at this location and then distributed through underground gas lines to residences and commercial buildings.

There are two rate classes with related rate schedules for businesses to choose from. What type of business do you represent?

Rate 2

A commercial, institutional or small industrial operation with consumption of less than 2,000 GJ annually (e.g. restaurants, apartment buildings)

Rate 3

A commercial, institutional or small industrial operation with consumption of more than 2,000 GJ annually (e.g. schools, offices)

Did you know? 2,000 Gigajoules (GJ) = approximately 556 Megawatts.

Composition of piped propane rate

Your rate is comprised of a commodity charge and a basic monthly charge.

The commodity charge is a variable rate that’s designed to recover the variable cost of providing propane gas service. It reflects the volatile nature of propane pricing from the supplier and the variable cost of delivering the propane to you.

The basic monthly charge is designed to recover the fixed costs FortisBC incurs to provide service, ensuring you have access to propane 24 hours a day. It includes the costs we incur regardless of the amount of propane used (e.g. service lines, meter sets and meters, meter reading, billing and customer accounting costs).
