Terasen Gas employees have always been proud to give back to the communities where they live and work. Whether it's a financial contribution, hands-on labour, or identifying a community group in need, employees provide selfless assistance in many creative ways. Since November 2009, Terasen Gas' Warm Hearts Charitable Foundation (Warm Hearts) has donated more than $51,000 to local charities and organizations.
"Terasen Gas employees have long been ambassadors in their communities and are examples of the corporate social responsibility we value as a company," said Amy Hennessy, Chair of Terasen Gas' Warm Hearts Charitable Foundation. "I am always impressed with Terasen Gas' employees' willingness to help out in their communities. Together, we are making a difference in the communities we serve."
Warm Hearts helps foster the health and well-being of the communities served by Terasen Gas by offering employees the opportunity to take an active role in making their communities happier, healthier, better places to live. This initiative also reflects Terasen Gas' role in delivering a sustainable future for British Columbians, both by developing and implementing integrated energy solutions and by giving back to the communities in which the company operates.
Since its inception in 1994, more than $500,000 has been donated by employees through Warm Hearts to charitable organizations throughout the company's service areas. Warm Hearts was founded and is still managed today by employee volunteers. Terasen Gas employees have supported many different needs in the community from hospitals and hospices to shelters and youth centres.
The charities and organizations that will benefit from the third quarter's more than $17,000 in Warm Hearts funding are:
- Serpentine Enhancement Society (Tynehead Hatchery)
- Surrey Hospice Society
- New View Society
- Victoria Association for Community Living, doing business as Community Living Victoria
- IQRA Islamic School
- Glenmerry Parent Advisory Council
- Harwin Elementary School Parent Advisory Council
- Holly Elementary Parent Advisory Council
Warm Hearts funds registered Canadian charities in the Terasen Gas service territory. Funds must be used for capital expenditures and not operating costs.
