Electrical Safety World offers interactive games, science experiments, stories, fantastic facts, and safety information, all wrapped up in a colorful, animated website.

Quick Tips: Electrical Safety

  • Keep kites away from power lines. If a kite becomes tangled in the wires, leave it there and call FortisBC to retrieve it.
  • If a ball or frisbee goes into a substation, leave it there and call FortisBC to have it retrieved.
  • Water and power lines don't mix. Don't squirt water guns at wires. The current can flow through the water stream and cause electrocution.
  • Climbing trees can be dangerous. Check to make sure no trees are near power lines.
  • Respect electricity and stay away from areas with high-voltage warning signs.
  • Your best protection is to stay away from power lines. When playing, stay at least a bus-length away, and never approach a  power line laying on the ground or on a tree.
  • Always obey warning signs around electricity. They are there for a reason.
  • Don’t yank the plug out by the cord, you can expose live wires.
  • Keep power tools away from water.
