Field Operations puts FortisBC plans, designs, safety regulations and customer service policies into action.

As a Field Operations worker for Distribution and Transmission departments, you'll be doing hands-on work on our pipelines and facilities. You'll also respond when customers report smelling gas or if there is an incident with a pipeline.

Here are two of the roles inside Field Operations:

Customer Service Technicians (CSTs)

If you want a great place to start, with long term opportunities and high levels of responsibility, then this is the position for you. You'll be working on your own, yet meeting new people everyday while you're on the move, responding to customer calls.

CSTs work mainly with our residential customers. Along with having your Provincial Class B Gas Fitters License, you'll also need to be a great problem solver. Trouble shooting under pressure, sometimes in emergency situations, is a big part of Field Operations - from responding to gas leaks, fires and burst pipelines to checking meters, locking and unlocking gas connections.

System Operations Technicians (SOTs)

Many of our CSTs move into System Operations as they gain experience and education. SOTs have an Provincial Class A Gas Fitters License and post-secondary technical training.

While SOTs have duties similar to CSTs, they work more with our industrial clients. You'll be working with our different stations and commercial/industrial meters, monitoring and assessing our systems.

Customer service is still part of being an SOT.  SOTs answer the more technical questions from customers with experience in the industry. We rely on you to represent FortisBC.

"CSTs and SOTs are the face of the company in technical issues. They make customers feel safe and account for their individual needs. It's the routine of inspection and service that keeps our customers and our company safe."
