REnEW Program

Making a difference

Not everyone has access to the training and employment opportunities they desire. Sometimes barriers get in the way that can thwart a motivated individual from acquiring a fulfilling career. At the same time, some industries, such as the emerging energy efficiency sector, are lacking skilled workers.

That’s where the Residential Energy and Efficiency Works—REnEW for short— training program, comes in. Created by FortisBC and supported by BC Hydro, REnEW works with community groups around BC to train motivated people to work in the emerging field of energy efficiency retrofitting.

Watch how the REnEW program has helped dozens of British Columbians gain job-ready skills for the emerging energy efficiency construction sector:

In the REnEW Program, the students gain self-confidence as well as job-ready skills, while employers gain access to a pool of entry-level skilled workers.

Local Participation

Classes have been held in communities where the students live and will eventually work, including Vancouver, Kelowna, Chilliwack and Williams Lake. Studying locally provides an opportunity for the students to give back to their own communities.

More than 68 participants have successfully completed the three to five week training program. Many of them are gaining employment or furthering their education. REnEW is living up to its name, by renewing hope and confidence in many individuals.
