Employee giving

We support employees giving back to their communities. Through volunteering and donations, our employees have helped organizations and causes across our service areas. Together with our employees, we give about $190,000 to 160 charitable organizations each year.

Community giving days

Each year, we organize a number of community giving days to benefit community groups and local non-profit organizations, which are often brought forward by employees with a connection with the organization. Employees freely offer their time and effort to these worthy causes.

Recent community giving days have included planting trees in Lower Mainland parks with Evergreen, helping the Kamloops Boys & Girls Club build a playground, helping to plant an Aboriginal garden at Douglas College in Coquitlam and cleaning up beaches in the wake of flooding in Kelowna.

Give where you live

We help employees’ donations go further with donation matching and top-up opportunities for the causes that are important to them. We top up employee donations to charities such as Warm Hearts Charitable Foundation and the United Way. We also offer donations to non-profit organizations for which our employees volunteer, and once a year FortisBC will match individual donations of $100 to 1,000 by 50 per cent to a registered non-profit organization of the employee’s choice.

Warm Hearts Charitable Foundation

Warm Hearts is our employee-run charitable organization, which supports the health and well-being of the communities close to the hearts of FortisBC employees. Since its inception in 1994, over $1 million has been donated by employees to charitable organizations throughout our service areas. Warm Hearts was founded and is still managed today by employee volunteers.

United Way

Employees support the United Way all year long through payroll donations, benefiting the United Way in the employee’s home community. The United Way addresses community issues of poverty and integration in children and seniors. They create and support initiatives including childhood nutrition, developmental and educational success, and senior health and independence and more.
