A note from Carol
As we go to print with this issue of The Source, excitement fills the air at FortisBC. Not only are we preparing to commission the Mt. Hayes Natural Gas Storage Project, but we are also beginning to learn the ropes of the electricity business.
In July 2010, Terasen Gas and FortisBC, Fortis Inc.’s two B.C.-based energy companies began to operate under a common executive team and vision. Both companies delivered energy to British Columbians; both shared the common goal of meeting customers’ energy needs while helping the province meet its climate action goals. And now, together under a shared name and brand, FortisBC will provide electricity, natural gas, propane and integrated energy solutions to British Columbia — more energy than any other utility in the province and about 21 per cent of the total energy consumed in B.C.
But what’s really exciting about being a part of the Fortis family is that Fortis has spirit - community and employee spirit! This spirit has created an immediate bond between employees here on Vancouver Island and with our colleagues throughout the rest of the province. Part of this spirit is our shared belief in giving back to the communities where we work and live.
Our Give Where You Live program is a perfect example of employees volunteering their time to give back to their communities. Each year, we take on a volunteer community project somewhere on Vancouver Island and we spend a day working on much-needed projects for non-profit organizations.
In the past, we have worked with Community Living Victoria, the Clay Tree Society in Nanaimo and Lili House, a women’s transition house in Courtenay. It’s amazing what a group of employees can accomplish in one day — especially with the varying talents our employees possess! This May, you’ll see further evidence of our spirit. That’s a promise — so stay tuned!
